Transforming Conceptual Data Models into an Object Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper a conceptually simple structural object model focusing on object types, attributes and ISA relationships is introduced. The model is derived mainly from an extended Entity-Relationship approach, but concepts from other semantic and object-oriented models have innuenced its features. It is shown how high-level conceptual data models can be mapped to this model, and to what extent the object model subsumes classical modeling paradigms.

Semantic Object Model and Flat XML Schema
Generally, conceptual data models, such as E-R, NIAM, ORM, and UML, are used for modeling relational database schema. Another object database schema design, e.g. Semantic Object Model (SOM), is employed. We use SOM in our research work. The reasons, SOM can capture more meaning of an application environment and provides richer data structuring capabilities. Therefore, it is a powerful approach ...
متن کاملObject-Relational Representation of a Conceptual Model for Temporal Data Warehouses
Temporal Data Warehouses (TDWs) allow to manage timevarying multidimensional data by joining the research of Temporal Databases and Data Warehouses. TDWs raise different issues such as temporal aggregations, multidimensional schema versioning, etc. However, very little attention from the research community has been drawn to conceptual modeling for TDWs and its subsequent logical representation....
متن کاملA Tool for Transforming Conceptual Schemas of Spatio-Temporal Databases with Multiple Representation
Nowadays, classical conceptual models (such as ER or UML) are used for designing database applications. These classical conceptual models usually come with associated CASE tools assisting the user from the creation of the conceptual schema until the generation of a physical schema for a relational or an object-relational DBMS. However, when developing spatial or temporal databases such classica...
متن کاملIntegrating and Supporting Entity Relationship and Object Role Models
This paper describes the conceptual integration and computer-based support of two important groups of conceptual data models, Entity Relationship Models and Object Role Models (e.g. NIAM). We perform conceptual integration using the conceptual data modelling language CoCoA to specify separate data models of individual notations. We then merge these into an integrated conceptual data model for b...
متن کاملA Survey of Database Design Transformations Based on the Entity-Relationship Model
At present, the Enti ty-Relat ionship (ER) model is the most important paradigm for conceptual database design. Since the model was introduced in the mid-seventies, a large body of literature has been published on transforming conceptual ER schemas or diagrams into logical data models. The purpose of this paper is to survey this literature. A first focus is on transformation approaches from the...
